Michael & Melanie
As I’ve mentioned before, last year’s lull afforded me the opportunity to invest in myself. Since I had time on my hands, which, let’s face it, is our most precious commodity, I decided to enroll in two photography courses. My favorite of the two is a posing course. This posing course is all about capturing those “natural moments” during a portrait session that I love so much.
By the time I was half way through the course, I was itching to put my knew knowledge to the test. Enter Michael and Melanie, or M&M as they’re affectionately known around here. Michael, my son, and his girlfriend graciously agreed to be my test subjects. Actually, “graciously” is taking it a bit too far. Michael, like most guys, does not relish the idea of a portrait session. He’d rather spend his free time gaming or watching Netflix. But, I asked nicely and he said yes. Yay!
We met on an icy Sunday afternoon, during golden hour, for their couples portrait session at McKay Lake. For those of you who don’t know, golden hour is the last (or first) hour of daylight. Golden hour light is the most flattering natural light for portrait photography. Days are short during Colorado winters. The sun had done little to raise the freezing temperatures so we worked fast. I’m thrilled with the heartwarming images we created in under 20 minutes! Just imagine what we could have done during a full session! And, best of all, Michael actually had fun… what more could a mother ask for!
I’m blessed to have these two on my side, thank you M&M!!
