The Bacon Family
Marika had her heart set on CU Boulder as the location for her family portrait session. She has an adorable photograph of her children that was taken on campus, in front of Varsity Lake, when they were little. Since they are now teenagers, she thought it would be fun to go back for an update.
My heart almost stopped the day of their session when I learned that a large number of college students had tested positive for Covid-19 that week. Thankfully, the new social distancing restrictions did not effect us. The campus offers an abundance of portrait locations, all within a short walk from each other. Twisting iron staircases, architecture, a bridge, stonework, lush greenery and, of course, Varsity Lake provide a stunning background form this amazing family. Other than a quick dash to chase a squirrel up a nearby tree, Coco was the perfect model. She sat when asked, walked along nicely and even got to be the star a time or two.
I’ve photographed this family many times over the past few years. The first time was at Union Station, in Denver. It’s a blessing to be part of their journey, and see how much the twins have grown into their own. Despite the uncertainty that has been the theme this year, their family portraits at CU Boulder will bring back fond memories. Tomorrow, as we all do our best to navigate through the Covid-19 pandemic, and in the future. Enjoy!
